Recently in collaboration with Simon Bull and the Scarborough Business Ambassadors we held a business breakfast at our school where we showcased to multiple industry professionals about what F1 in Schools is and how those companies could support us on our world finals campaign. During this breakfast visitors could test their reactions on our track, read through our national finals portfolios and learn how we test our car.

At the start of the breakfast the team gave a 10 Minute presentation where we guided visitors through our journey so far in F1 in Schools. Coming from two development class teams to becoming one whole team in professional class who is now preparing to compete at the 2024 Aramco F1 in Schools World Finals in Saudi Arabia later this year. During the presentation the team revealed their new Return on Investment Points System where sponsors are allocated a certain number of points depending on their sponsorship tier which they can spend at our points store so they can personally customise what they want as their return on investement.

In Addition to the team talking about their journey. We had three past competitors from Avidity Racing who competed at the 2019 World Finals in Abu Dhabi. They talked about how F1 in Schools propelled their career aspirations. For Hana Hinton is now doing a degree apprenticeship at the Dyson Institution for new product development at the University of Warwick. They also talked about how the help from SBA and other investors pushed them to compete on the world stage and also make their name known in the engineering industry.

After a remarkable year of achievements, Team Unity Racing from Scarborough UTC is preparing to represent the UK once again at the 2025 F1 in Schools World Finals this time on the global stage in Singapore. Following their unprecedented success at the 2024 World Finals, the team is back with even greater ambition and drive, setting their sights on another championship run this September.

Unity Racing Announces Exciting Changes for the 2024/25 STEM Racing Season

After an exhilarating and challenging experience at the 2024 Aramco F1 in Schools World Finals in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, Unity Racing has set its sights on another shot at glory in the 2024/25 STEM Racing season. The team competed against 55 teams, earning a solid 10th place finish and securing the joint 7th fastest car in the world, alongside two prestigious awards—Best Pit Display and Best Digital Media. While the team didn’t walk away with the top prize, they are more motivated than ever to return and perform even better next time.

New Look, Same Determination

For the 2024/25 season, Unity Racing will be returning with a bold new look. Although the name remains the same, the team will introduce a new logo and fresh team colors designed to help them stand out in the competition. This new identity reflects the team's commitment to evolve and give themselves the best chance to qualify for the World Finals again in 2025.

A significant change to the team’s structure has also taken place. With Matiss stepping down from his role as Team Manager to focus on marketing, Unity Racing's Jack Metcalfe, the team's lead Design Engineer takesover as the new Team Manager. Jack’s deep understanding of the competition and its demands makes him the perfect fit for this key role. Alongside him, Ryan Gharib will continue as Project Manager, while also lending his expertise as a Design Engineer, working specifically on the car's new wheel system.

To further strengthen their capabilities, Unity Racing is excited to announce that Alistair Lamberton will be joining the team as their new Graphic Designer. Alistair comes from Burnout Racing and brings a fresh perspective that will be crucial in defining the team’s new visual identity.

Upcoming Competitions

Unity Racing's first event of the 2024/25 season will take place on 7th February at the York STEM Centre for the Yorkshire & Humber Regional Finals. The team is aiming to win this regional competition and secure a spot at the 2025 UK National Finals in March, which will be held at the Magna Science Centre in Rotherham.

In addition to the new team structure and upcoming competitions, the competition itself is now called STEM Racing, marking a shift away from the traditional "F1 in Schools" name. The new name reflects the broader vision to expand the competition to a more diverse and inclusive audience.

Unity Racing National Champions!

March 27, 2025 – Rotherham, UK – Unity Racing has officially been crowned the 2025 Lenovo UK F1 in Schools Professional Class National Champions. This remarkable achievement is something the team never truly believed could happen, making the moment of victory an intense and emotional experience.

The competition took place at the Magna Science and Adventure Centre in Rotherham over two days. The first day was primarily dedicated to judging sessions, where teams showcased their work to score as many points as possible. These sessions included pit display judging, design and engineering evaluation, verbal presentations, and enterprise judging. Additionally, Unity Racing competed in a racing session on the newly unveiled 4-lane track. After four races—one on each track—the team finished the first day ranked 5th on the leaderboard.

On the second day, tension was high as teams awaited the results that would determine who would represent the UK at the World Finals in Singapore later this year. Unity Racing had one final racing session, improving their standing to 2nd place on the leaderboard. The team also received valuable feedback from the judges, whose high praise boosted their confidence.

Awards and Achievements

The highlight of the event was the awards ceremony. Before being officially crowned National Champions, Unity Racing received the following prestigious awards:

As the final results approached, anticipation grew. With Vega Racing and Tori Veloci already on the podium, it was now or never for Unity Racing. Then, the announcement came—the team had secured first place and was officially crowned the 2025 National Champions.

The team was overwhelmed with excitement and pride upon hearing their name announced. Unable to contain their joy, they celebrated in true Yorkshire fashion with their signature chant.

Adding to the momentous occasion, Unity Racing was later informed that they had achieved the highest score in UK National Finals history, amassing an impressive total of 965 points.

Preparing for the World Finals

With the UK title secured, Unity Racing is now setting its sights on the World Finals in Singapore. However, to make this journey possible, the team needs to raise £45,000 to cover expenses such as flights, accommodation, uniforms, entry fees, and other costs.

Yorkshire's Future Engineers Accelerate with F1 in Schools Initiative

Yorkshire's business network, Made in Yorkshire, renowned for promoting manufacturing across the UK, is steering the way for the next generation of industry experts by sponsoring a Scarborough F1 in Schools team.

Five students, aged 16-19, from Scarborough University Technical College (UTC) have embraced the F1 in Schools project, which challenges them to design, construct, and race miniature Formula 1 cars. Competing against 80 teams from 60 countries, including Azerbaijan and Kuwait, this initiative is a testament to global collaboration and innovation.

The team, aptly named ‘Unity,’ consists of Ethan Glover, Matiss Gribuska, Jack Metcalfe, Ryan Gharib, and Billy Fields. Using industry-standard software and tools, the students have designed a car capable of reaching speeds of up to 70kph, powered by compressed air canisters, all while adhering to strict F1 regulations.

These dedicated students have invested over 300 hours from initial concept to the final build, conducting rigorous testing to ensure optimal aerodynamics and build quality.

Supported through corporate sponsorships, industry partnerships, and educational grants, the F1 in Schools initiative provides students with practical, hands-on experience and paves the way for careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths).

In addition to designing and building the car, students also develop business plans and market their teams, gaining essential skills for future academic and professional endeavors.

As a platinum sponsor, Made in Yorkshire will offer the Unity team full membership in its network, which advocates for manufacturing throughout the UK. This membership will help promote the team, securing additional fundraising opportunities. Unity will also have a dedicated microsite on the Made in Yorkshire platform to enhance their marketing efforts. The team is also supported by Mind and Anglo-American.

Helen Dowds, principal at Scarborough UTC, remarks, “F1 is the pinnacle of our UTC curriculum, integrating all our expertise and lessons into one cohesive project. The competition for spots on these teams is intense, as students recognise the significant value and opportunity of participating at both national and international levels. Unity, our world champion qualifier, has demonstrated exceptional dedication and planning.”

She adds, “None of this would be possible without the unwavering support of regional businesses. Their advice and sponsorship are crucial, and without them, we wouldn’t make it past the starting line. Our heartfelt thanks to all involved.”

The final race is set to take place between 22nd – 28th November across two locations, beginning at the Dharan Expo in Saudi Arabia and concluding in Qatar, coinciding with the F1 Grand Prix.

After a record-breaking performance in the UK National Finals, Unity Racing is gearing up to take on the world and they’re looking for sponsors to join them on their journey to the 2025 STEM Racing World Finals in Singapore.

Unity Racing made history this year by scoring an incredible 965 out of 990 points the highest points tally ever recorded in UK competition history. The team clinched First Place, along with awards for Best Engineered Car, Best Verbal Presentation, and Fastest Car, solidifying their reputation as one of the most formidable STEM racing teams in the country.

This isn't Unity Racing's first time on the global stage. In a previous World Finals appearance, the team secured an impressive 10th place finish against fierce international competition. With more experience, more momentum, and a stronger team than ever, they now aim to reach even greater heights in Singapore.

To make this possible, Unity Racing needs to raise £42,000, with £29,000 required by mid-June to cover essential early costs including travel, accommodation, and logistics. Sponsorship from businesses, organisations, and individuals is crucial to helping the team bring their world-class car to the global stage.
